The status of health infrastructure was very weak in the State prior to advent of NRHM there was shortage of Health Sub Centres,PHC’s, CHC as per the norms prescribed by the MOH&FW,GOI.

In the newly created sub divisions and districts,hospitals were not set up.The number of beds in the hospitals was also less than the required as per the IPHS norms.There was shortage of staff of differents categories like medical officers,Nurse “A” grade,ANM,Lab technicians,OT assistants etc at districts and sub divisional hospitals and PHC.

NRHM was launched in the month of August2005 with a view to bring about these architectural corrections,provide techno-managerial support and ASHA a voluntary link worker between the villages and the health facilities.With this view State Health Society (SHS),Bihar was set up in August 2005 for providing techno-managerial support and implementation of NRHM in the State.

The prime goal of the Department of Health GoB with SHS to provide qualilty health care services 24*7 hours up to PHC level.Under the NRHM the state has embarked upon a number of initiatives.

Industrial Incentive Policy

The Industrial Incentive Policy- 2006, made by Department Of Industries, Bihar has made provisions for granting pre-production incentive of subsidy/exemption from stamp duty and registration fee and post production incentive of grant/exemption for preparation of project reports, purchase of land/shed, technical know-how, captive power generation/diesel generating set, quality certificate, VAT, luxury tax, electricity duty, conversion fee, market fee etc. With the implementation of this Industrial Incentive Policy- 2006, it is expected that there will be growth in the per capita income of the state as well as the industrial growth.

Major Industries of Bihar

The major agro based industries of Bihar are of rice, sugar, edible oil.

The rice mills are located at Bauxer Karbisganch in Purnia district, Araria. Sugar mills are located at Banmankhi in Purnia District, Bauxer, Madora in Saran District, Samastipur and Bihata in Patna District.

The edible oil mills are located at Araria, Banmankhi in Purnia District, Bauxer, Lakhisarai at Munger district. The textile industries are at Bhagalpur, Gaya, Nalanda, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Siwan and Patna.
